The students of Nss Hill spring International School recently visited the Byculla Zoo to attend Mr Valay Shende's Talk. They were present to hear his views and why he sculpted his artworks based on miserable situations.
Who is Valay Shende ?
Valay Shende (15 September 1980, Nagpur, Maharashtra, India) is a sculptor and artist. In 1999 he received his diploma in Art Teaching from Govt. Chitrakala Mahavidyalaya, Nagpur, and then he went on to train at the Sir Jamsetjee Jeejebhoy School of Art, Mumbai, from which he graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Sculpturing in 2004.
Valay Shende has also created sculptures:
1) He made an artwork specially to express the number of farmers who suicided.
2) An artwork expressed about the people in this world who are physically mature but mentally sick.
3) He made a special truck to also talk about the farmers.
4) He made a woman with barbed wire to talk about woman empowerment.
5) He also made a sculpture of various religion to express his words:" Human beings should have religion with moralty."
6) He made a Rajasthani style table with chairs and having 2 bottle one with salt and the other with pepper. But coming to know that those two bottles actually had ashes.
He also shared the problems that have started occurring in remote villages:
1) Suiciding Farmers
2) Woman empowerment
3) Child marriage
4) Girls are not married because of dowry
5) Religion discrimination
6) And other serious problems faced
How did he get influenced in this work?
"Art is my passion and because my parents supported me in my hobby that is the reason I am involved in my work." said Mr Shende.
His belief
If you consider the world yours, there re no seams .no boundaries............the moment you look at yourself as a citizen of the country and not of the world you limit yourself.
I also learnt how art and science both were there in his sculptures. As everything has atoms and molecules which is an interesting topic under science." I like doing artworks that are a concept of science and use various materials."
